Black iron karahi are round cooking pots with thick deep sides and a flat base that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Traditional black iron karahi are used for shallow or deep frying and are especially famous for stews, often named karahi after the cooking pot. Black cast iron karahi are also used to serve food at the table. Karahi are nowadays also available in stainless steel, copper and sometimes with non-stick surfaces.
